WOW Women of Wrestling Readies for January Debut

By Valerie Milano

Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 10/15/18 – WOW Women of Wrestling and AXS TV prepared for their January debut with a live two day event at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles last Wednesday and Thursday.  Media were allowed access to the matches via front-row balcony seats, and interviews with WOW co-owner/L.A. Lakers owner Jeannie Buss and select WOW superheroes, including reigning WOW champion Santana Garrett, 18-year-old Jungle Grrrl, and Impact Women’s champion Tessa Blanchard, in her WOW debut. The up-close access was just a peek into the mayhem that WOW promises to deliver.

Matches were taped and will air this winter on Friday, January 18th as part of a lineup stacked with action programming, including mixed martial arts, and New Japan Pro Wrestling coverage.

WOW events have invited comparisons to the hugely popular series about women’s wrestling GLOW on Netflix, which stars Alison Brie in the spandex and sequin studded action series.

Shaul Guerrero (iconic wrestler Eddie Guerrerro’s daughter) has recently joined WOW as a ring announcer.

Santana Garrett is WOW’s current champion, reigning since 2016.  Other champions have included Terri Gold, Danger, Jungle Grrrl, and Lana Star.
