 Vincent Leroy: Molecular Clouds

By Valerie Milano

Indio, CA (The Hollywood Times) 4/20/23 – The trance-like art installation, Molecular Clouds, is a true marvel to behold at this year’s Coachella Art and Music Festival. Created and designed by Industrial Designer and artist Vincent Leroy, the whimsical art piece is capturing the eyes of festival goers and is a prominent, creative addition that pairs well with the backdrop of music and high-energy performances that the event never fails to deliver.

Simplicity was the focus behind creating the cloud installation for the festival. The high-profile artist explains the gorgeous work in more detail, “I work a lot with motion engineering, I actually use motion as my first ‘material’. I imagine the rotation and the movement before I actually think about the usage of materials. We had this idea to use a very simple, circular bubble and to make a strange movement with a very simple design.”

“I think I learned a lot about my art on the farm of my father” Vincent explains, recalling where the fundamental ideas behind his dream-like artwork were birthed. Inspired works such as his Lens Cloud and other variations of his Molecular pieces that both include the praised mobility element, capture the innocence of Leroy’s work that easily propels him forward in the Industrial Design community. The stunning, lightweight clouds present at this year’s Coachella festival adopt the familiar movements of Vincents’ work; the magenta molecules rotate both horizontally and vertically while gloriously reflecting the light that catches on the bulbous orbs.
