Tips on Securing Celebrities for Brands

By: Luke Lintz

(The Hollywood Times) 9/4/22I am a businessman, entrepreneur, and the co-founder and CEO of HighKey Enterprises LLC. Our celebrity giveaway department called HighKey Clout has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry including Kevin Hart, Lil Pump, Rich The Kid, Trippie Redd, Blueface, Smoke Purpp, Ryan Garcia, Noah Schnapp, Tana Mongeau, Polo G, Paul Wesley, Lana Rhoades, 6ix9ine, Rick Ross, Lil Baby, Ed Westwick, 21 Savage, Tyga, YBN Nahmir, Floyd Mayweather, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, Quavo, Offset, Bobby Shmurda, Lele Pons, Dababy, and Winnie Harlow.

HighKey Enterprises was not always this accomplished and throughout this process, my brothers Jordan, Jackson and I had to adjust our business strategies to reflect our financial capabilities as well as our credentials. In the beginning, we predominantly focused on securing lesser-known influencers for brands as our business ventures grew and became more well known.

Tips for Securing Celebrity While Establishing Reputation

In this industry, reputation is critical, and we had to focus on building a company that was backed by value and accomplishment before pursuing top celebrity clients.

  • We utilized Google Presence as well as reaching out to press and publication outlets to build a name and reputation for ourselves
  • Work through management teams through the process of cold emailing and calling
  • Chrome Extensions allowed us to find emails and phone numbers for the people we were looking to connect with

After securing our first deals with Highkey Clout campaigns, other influencers would reach out to us via brokers, people who are connected to celebrities in the hip-hop industry. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, those brokers who were responsible for booking physical venues would begin reaching out to us to book people for giveaways. In the wake of the pandemic, we watched as more companies were making the transition to doing business online in the digital market space, and the scale we were working on escalated dramatically as we transitioned from smaller influencers to more well-known celebrities.

As we gained more of a following on our Instagram account, we began reaching out to people via direct message to secure brand deals directly with the person that we were looking to work with. Instagram has proved to bring us a myriad of success, and some notable experiences that we have had via Instagram include responses from Snoop Dogg’s manager and Jordan receiving messages directly from rappers like Lil Baby and 6ix9ine. To secure celebrity influencers for brands, it is essential to prove that your company has a successful track record and is one backed by value. Our time in the industry has been like a snowball effect, and as our credentials increased, we were able to arrange giveaway celebrity campaigns via word of mouth and from influencers reaching out directly to us.

Tips for Securing Celebrity Influencers

  • It’s always best to communicate directly with the celebrity or their management team.
  • It is possible to accomplish communication with anyone if you can organize managers into the deal with a commission.
  • When reaching out to the celebrity or their management team, there must be a forthright lucrative offer proposed with immense value encompassed within that offer.
  • When proposing an offer, one must say what they do in one sentence and then make an offer in one more sentence.
  • If you do not receive a response, follow up continually until you are given a definitive answer to the deal that you’re proposing.
  • Jordan adds that you must avoid asking for more than you need and that smaller deals can be better and prove more successful, especially when you are working with a tight budget.
  • Guarantee that the deliverables are marked at the right price and ensure that the deal is going to go smoothly.
  • Always avoid adding things to the contract after the initial one is proposed, as this can make celebrities feel deceived.
  • It’s necessary to be accommodating to the celebrity when writing contracts, as they are fulfilling a request for you.
  • It is also crucial to note that when initiating a campaign, never pay up front because you can risk eliminating the incentive for the other person to follow through with the campaign, and one must keep in mind that nothing is locked in until a contract is signed.
  • It is quality over quantity and it’s pivotal to be associating value with your brand by providing your clients with the utmost services.
