Short & Sweet Movie Reviews
by Ché Zuro
What a shock of a movie!
DO NOT turn it off because you think this is going to be a cute romantic chick flick or a film that mimics “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.” It is neither. This is a tough film to review because the plot should not be spoiled! Watching without knowing much about the story line is the BEST way to watch this film! (If you like surprises and know nothing about this film and want to see it, DO NOT READ the rest of my review!)
This DOES start out as a romantic comedy of sorts but suddenly changes into something so out of the ordinary, you cannot even fathom what is actually happening!
Rose Armitage (Allison Williams) takes her boyfriend Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya) home to meet her parents for a weekend at their secluded estate in the woods; she’s white he’s black. It goes from cute and funny to questionable and disturbing to even more disturbing and then scary and horrific.
The acting was incredible.
Daniel Kaluuya plays the wonderful, funny, kind, generous, loving boyfriend, easy going, yet a little leery of meeting her parents. Allison Williams is the doting girlfriend who wants to spend her life with her man. The entire cast was stupendous in this film, including Catherine Keener and Bradley Whitford playing the all-inclusive, well educated, liberal parents of Rose, who take Chris into their family immediately. From then on, this becomes a horror film.
The story line was completely unique, the directing amazing. Writer and director of this film, Jordan Peele, is up for nominations in Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay in this year’s Oscars. Well deserved.
This is a MUST SEE and I have rated it 5 out of 5!
