West Hollywood, CA (The Hollywood Times) 11/18/16 – Jared Milrad and Nathan Johnson, the history-making same-sex couple featured in Hillary Clinton’s viral presidential campaign commercials, will sign and discuss their widely anticipated new book SO, YOU WANT TO GET (GAY) MARRIED at West Hollywood’s Book Soup located at 8818 Sunset Boulevard on Friday, December 9th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The book is available for sale at howtogetgaymarried.com.
With a JD from Boston’s Northeastern Law School and roots in New York City, Milrad, 31, has worked in law, liberal politics, and the labor movement. Johnson, 30, has built a career in health care consulting as a native of Michigan. Despite the many differences, both care deeply about the world.
“Growing up in rural Michigan, I didn’t have many openly LGBTQ role models in my community,” said Nathan Johnson. “I was proud to co-author this book to share our story with the world, and importantly, to let young people of all backgrounds know that even in the face of setbacks, there is hope – and there are always people who have walked your path.”
Jared and Nathan are the first openly gay couple to appear in a major presidential campaign commercial. The pair has been profiled in numerous media outlets around the world, including THE NEW YORK TIMES, THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE, BBC NEWS, TIME, ABC, CBS, and NBC NEWS.
In this humorous and witty guidebook for the unhitched, Jared and Nathan share practical tips on how to tie the same-sex knot while barely remaining sane. They wrote the book as an honest exploration of life as a Millennial couple in the United States, even when one happens to get thrust into the international spotlight just weeks before the wedding!
“At a time when many members of the LGBTQ community are fearful about what’s next for our community, we wrote SO, YOU WANT TO GET (GAY) MARRIED not only to share our story as a same-sex couple, but also to inspire LGBTQ youth and allies to be open, proud, and vocal advocates for our civil equality. We look forward to meeting with members of the community on December 9th in West Hollywood,” said Jared Milrad.
The event is free and open to the public. Please call Book Soup at 310-659-3110 for further details.
