Mayor Joins John Paul DeJoria, Van Jones, John Streur as Keynote Speakers
Toyota Mirai, Calvert Investments/Eaton Vance and Montage Beverly Hills Announced as Presenting Sponsors of IMPACT on March 23-24 in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES (March 15, 2017) – Today, the Environmental Media Association (EMA) announced that Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, who has been a longtime leader in environmental sustainability efforts, will deliver a keynote address at IMPACT, EMA’s first-annual investment and innovation summit at the Montage in Beverly Hills, California. They also announced that John Paul DeJoria, co-founder of the Paul Mitchell line, will join Van Jones, President and Co-Founder of Dream Corps, and John Streur, President and CEO of Calvert Research and Management, as keynote speakers.
“Los Angeles is a leader in the fight against climate change — and the success we are achieving speaks to the power of planning, innovating, and investing toward a sustainable future that can make cities everywhere healthier and more prosperous,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “We will reach that future by working together, and the EMA Impact Summit will gather entrepreneurs and thought leaders to discuss how we can collaborate to take on the most urgent challenge facing our planet.”
“Mayor Garcetti has been a trailblazer in using innovative and creative solutions to make Los Angeles a more sustainable city. Clearly, environmental and tech advancement are an authentic passion for him. We are incredibly honored to have him join us at EMA IMPACT Summit,” said Debbie Levin President & CEO of the Environmental Media Association. “We are also very grateful to Toyota Mirai, Calvert Investments/Eaton Vance and Montage Beverly Hills for their leadership in proving that the best businesses can simultaneously be ethical, profitable, and responsible. We are thrilled that these leaders across every industry have joined IMPACT to share this message far and wide across politicians, investors, entrepreneurs, and consumers.”
EMA also announced that Toyota Mirai, Calvert Investments/Eaton Vance and Montage Beverly Hills would be the presenting sponsors for the two-day Summit. Each sponsor brings their own expertise and leadership in sustainable business to the conference. Calvert Investments, recently acquired by Eaton Vance, are authorities on impact investing and its role in protecting the environment. Toyota, an EMA partner for seventeen years, will bring news of their latest technologies to one of their most receptive audiences – Hollywood. EMA helped introduce Toyota’s Prius (and now the Mirai) to Hollywood in 2002, and is now working closely with Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, Mirai. In addition, Toyota Mirai is bringing consumer activism into the mainstream. The Montage will host the Summit and its guests at their Beverly Hills hotel, Southern California’s first LEED-certified hotel to reach Gold level certification. The hotel is a model in sustainable development in the hospitality industry globally, successfully combining luxury with environmentally conscious business practices.
“Environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing is one of the leading trends in asset management and among investors today,” said John Streur, President and Chief Executive Officer of Calvert Research and Management. “With more than $8.5 trillion invested with consideration of responsible investment criteria in the U.S. alone, there has never been a more relevant point in time to discuss these issues and raise awareness for the importance of directing capital to companies that align with these beliefs and values.”
“Toyota shares the Environmental Media Association’s mission of fostering innovation to tackle complex environmental issues,” said Mark Angelacos, General Manager, Advanced Technology, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “We are excited to be a part of EMA’s inaugural Impact Summit, a continuation of our 17-year partnership, and look forward to the sharing of inventive and inspirational ideas for a sustainable future.”
EMA IMPACT Summit’s unique and diverse programming will provide an unparalleled opportunity for attendees to identify opportunities for personal and professional empowerment and join forces to create change on issues affecting our planet. For a full list of speakers, click here.
Since its founding, EMA has honored landmark figures in business including Elon Musk, Sir Richard Branson, Jeff Skoll and Jessica Alba. EMA has also been credited with acting as a huge factor in launching consumer awareness for several of today’s most successful sustainable brands, including their landmark celebrity-driven campaign to popularize the globally bestselling hybrid, Toyota Prius, as well as each alternative fuel vehicle that TMS keeps innovating. Currently, EMA is working closely with them on the hydrogen fuel cell, Mirai. These factors inspired EMA to turn their focus to creating a dedicated event focused on personal, professional and corporate impact.
