The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic will return to Liberty State Park on Saturday, June 3, with a spectacular star-studded celebration in honor of the iconic event’s 10th anniversary.

First brought to New York in 2008 by Veuve Clicquot and world-renowned polo player Nacho Figueras, the chic event marks the official kick off to the summer season and has become one of the most glamorous daytime social events of the year. In honor of the 10th anniversary, Veuve Clicquot is proud to support Keep A Child Alive, a non-profit organization working to support children and families affected by HIV, in addition to Friends of Liberty State Park, an organization dedicated to keeping Liberty State Park a free, green, and non-commercial urban waterfront oasis and the official beneficiary of the annual Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic.

After a 70-year absence, Veuve Clicquot brought polo back to New York for its first Polo Classic in 2008. What started as an intimate gathering of 250 people has evolved and consistently grown over the years to bring consumers a one of a kind champagne experience. Supporting the idea that champagne can be enjoyed not only for celebratory occasions but for everyday moments, Veuve Clicquot now brings more than 9,000 guests an unforgettable afternoon of polo alongside the idyllic backdrop of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. The 10th anniversary will set the stage for years to come as Veuve Clicquot once again invites polo enthusiasts and champagne lovers to participate in the fête and watch Nacho Figueras and Team Veuve Clicquot in a fast-paced polo match.

“Our namesake, Madame Clicquot, courageously took over her husband’s champagne business in 1805 as a 27-year-old widow, and is responsible for shaping Veuve Clicquot into one of the greatest Champagne Houses in the world,” states Senior Vice President of Veuve Clicquot U.S.A., Vanessa Kay. “We are thrilled to enrich this year’s 10th anniversary celebration by paying homage to Madame Clicquot’s audacious and innovative spirit and bringing our fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience filled with style, polo and, of course, champagne.”

To honor the celebration for this landmark 10th anniversary, Veuve Clicquot is introducing several exciting elements to the day’s festivities. 15-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer, actress, New York Times best-selling author, entrepreneur and a powerful force in the world of activism, Alicia Keys, will give a special performance at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. With a special donation to Alicia’s charity Keep a Child Alive, she is excited to perform and remind all when coming together at special events like this that we can become one voice for helping make change and bring awareness to important issues everywhere. Keys’ current critically-acclaimed sixth studio album, Here, is a powerful and emotional body of work that is her favorite yet. Currently, Keys can be seen as a coach on the 12th season of NBC’s “The Voice” alongside Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.

Actor Neil Patrick Harris will serve as the event host, providing commentary and leading attendees throughout the afternoon’s activities. Currently starring in Netflix’s series adaption of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Harris is no stranger to the spotlight, having served as host of the 87th Annual Academy Awards, as well as the Tony Awards and Primetime Emmy Awards. “I am honored and excited to co-host the 10th anniversary of this very special event,” states event host, Neil Patrick Harris. “This year’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic will be a celebration unlike any before, and I am looking forward to sharing the experience with all of you.”

Attendees will be treated to the musical stylings of recording artist and Broadway sensation Jordan Fisher as he opens the polo match with a rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Known for his breakout roles in “GREASE: LIVE” as well as the record-breaking Broadway hit “Hamilton,” Fisher has taken the musical world by storm and is currently working on his own debut full-length album.

Contributing to the on-site excitement of the 10th anniversary, two limited edition items will be available for purchase to commemorate the afternoon fête – the Veuve Clicquot Polo Arrow and the Veuve Clicquot x Fendi Bag Charm. Available for fifty dollars ($50.00), the Veuve Clicquot Polo Arrow is a customized, tin memento champagne box printed with “Polo Classic” on the side as well as the distance to Veuve Clicquot’s home in Reims, France.

The #FendiRoadTrip pop-up shop will be making an official stop in this year’s Rosé Garden. Check out the truck in person to see Fendi’s must-have accessories, including a limited edition Bag Charm in Veuve Clicquot’s iconic yellow, created in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. Retailing for four-hundred dollars ($400.00), the furry charm will be available on-site, on, and in select Fendi boutiques.

Also new to this year’s experience, attendees can enjoy Veuve Clicquot Rich and Rich Rosé, the newest champagne offerings from the House. Veuve Clicquot Rich and Rich Rosé are inspired by mixology and designed to be served over ice and mixed with fresh fruits, vegetables or herbs. Guests will have the option of sipping two specialty cocktails – the Clicquot Rich Classic and Clicquot Rich Rosé Twist, which feature cucumber and lime, respectively.
In addition to Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label, Rosé, Rich and Rich Rosé, guests can enjoy gourmet summer fare from some of the best food trucks in the city, including Red Hook Lobster Pound, Neapolitan Express, Toum NYC, Gorilla Cheese and Koro Koro.

This year’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic offers three unique viewing experiences. In addition to General Admission tickets, which retail for one-hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00), Veuve Clicquot is also offering Early Access tickets, which include a reserved spot on the first ferry to Liberty State Park and retail for two-hundred and twenty-five dollars ($225.00).

Malala Yousafzai Accepts An Honorary Canadian Citizenship

Malala Yousafzai: Profile

In her second attempt, activist Malala Yousafzai was successful in coming to Canada’s capital to accept an honorary citizenship.

During her first attempt in October 2014, she was stopped at the airport due to an attack at Ottawa’s Parliament Hill. This time, however, went off without a hitch, while Malala’s 20-minute speech to Parliament received several standing ovations. The first ovation came in reference to the 2014 incident.

“The man who attacked Parliament Hill called himself a Muslim, but he did not share my faith,” Malala said. “He did not share the faith of one and a half billion Muslims, living in peace around the world. He did not share our Islam, a religion of learning, compassion and mercy. I am a Muslim and I believe that if you pick up a gun in the name of Islam and kill an innocent person, you are not Muslim anymore.”

In her speech she also spoke about world refugees, the violence many are fleeing and praised Canada’s efforts thus far yet holds out hope for more. “Your motto and your stand ‘Welcome to Canada’ is more than a headline or a hashtag,” she said. “It is the spirit of humanity that every single one of us would yearn for if our family was in crisis.”

Malala said she was impressed with Canada’s first gender-balanced cabinet, but she also had a message for her new fellow citizens.

“I would like to tell something to the children of Canada: You do not have to be as old as the very young Prime Minister Trudeau to be a leader,” she said. “I have learned that even a child’s voice can be heard across the world. To the young women of Canada I want to say, step forward, raise your voices, and the next time I visit, I hope to see more of you filling these seats. And to the men of Canada, be proud feminists, and help women get equal opportunities as men.”

But her bigger ask was for the leaders in the room: to seize every opportunity to ensure that all girls in all countries receive an education. After reciting several statistics showing the economic benefits to countries that educate their boys and girls, Malala said: “Education is vital for the security of the world because extremism grows alongside inequality, in places where people feel they have no opportunity, no voice, no hope. ”

Liv Tyler And Gap Celebrate Motherhood With The Launch Of Mama Said

May 04, 2017 10:30 am
Gap, the iconic American clothing brand, announces the launch of the film ‘Mama Said,’ a celebration of motherhood in support of Every Mother Counts co-directed and starring Liv Tyler.

Tyler and co-director Paola Kudacki set out to create a film that embodies the joys and optimism of motherhood, with a nod to the loving influence mothers have on their children.

“I often think of the things my grandmother and my mother have been telling me my whole life. Remembering what your ‘mama said’ as a child and growing up is very important. I often try to think of things that I can say to my children in a way that they can hear me the same way I heard my mom,” said Tyler.

Set to actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell singing “Let Your Love Flow” by the Bellamy Brothers, the film depicts the mothers enjoying intimate, candid moments with their children playing, dancing and bonding. The cast’s children are dressed in babyGap and GapKids, showcasing Gap essentials that are part of every mother’s go-to wardrobe for their children.

The ‘Mama Said’ cast includes:
• Actress Liv Tyler with son Sailor (age 2) daughter Lula (9 Months):
“I’ve always loved the Gap. Growing up in America, Gap is such a big part of your life and I thought it was such a special thing to do a project that involves the mothers, the children and Every Mother Counts,” said Tyler.
• Model Coco Rocha with daughter Ioni (age 2):
“I’ve never felt so strong and powerful as I did bringing my daughter into this world. Being a mother is by far the most rewarding and beautiful experience I’ve ever had.” Said Rocha
• Model Candice Swanepoel with son Anacãn (6 months):
“Motherhood is so different for each woman – it’s your unique journey, and I love that I’m able to share my experience as a mother in this project,” said Swanepoel.
• Actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell with son Hunter (5 months):
“When I think of ‘Mama Said’, I think of things my mama used to say to me. My mom used to try to reinforce the fact that it is important to live your truth and be authentic and don’t apologize for who you are, I look forward to passing that to my son,” said Smollett-Bell.
• Artist Ali Bird and wife, photographer Cass Bird, with son Leo (age 9) and daughter Mae (age 7):
“I love every aspect of ‘Mama Said,’ it’s exciting to be doing this as a family with Gap and Every Mother Counts to support mothers who don’t have access and need the help,” said Ali Bird.

“Motherhood unites women across all walks of life and invokes feelings of love and strength in both children and adults. It speaks to the core values of Gap as a brand,” said Craig Brommers, chief marketing officer for Gap. “We are proud of this celebration of motherhood and our partnership with Every Mother Counts, bringing support to mothers around the globe.”

Gap found a natural partner in Every Mother Counts to support mothers as part of this celebration. Every Mother Counts is dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safer for mothers everywhere, providing $4 million in grants since 2012 focused on improving access to essential maternity care. Gap is issuing a call to action for people to make a donation; U.S. residents can text ‘MOMS’ to 20222 to make an automatic donation of $5 and international residents can visit to donate.

Pamela Anderson Dishes Up Vegan Curry To Homeless Refugees In Calais

May 04, 2017 07:30 am
Pamela Anderson took to the streets of Calais this week with organisations Help Refugees and Refugee Community Kitchen to dish up a nutritious homemade vegan curry and hand out down-free sleeping bags to refugees sleeping rough.

This action follows the star’s visit to a Dunkirk refugee camp in January, when she joined PETA in handing out warm vegan hats and gloves – along with hundreds of animal-themed activity books and coloured pencils – to children who had been forced to flee their home countries.

“I wanted to come and give these people a helping hand and let them know people care. They have lost so much, and I hope a nourishing meal can help make the awful situation they’ve found themselves in a little less awful today. And because it’s vegan, no animals have suffered for it, either”, says Anderson.

PETA named Anderson its 2016 Person of the Year for her efforts to encourage vegan eating, for her opposition to circuses that use animals, and for speaking out about fur, among many other actions.

Woody Harrelson

Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Woody Harrelson first hit our screens as the somewhat simple but always friendly bartender in Cheers. But since then he has gone on the become a favorite of the big screen, with appearances in Indecent Proposal, Natural Born Killers, and more recently Seven Ponds with Will Smith.

But in between starring in some of recent cinema’s most memorable movies, Harrelson has also become known as an environmental activist who is not scared to go out on a limb to save the planet.

He once scaled the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco with members of North Coast Earth First! group to unfurl a banner that read, “Aren’t ancient redwoods more precious than gold?” and traveled the American West Coast on a bike and domino caravan with a hemp oil-fueled biodiesel bus.
