International supermodel and DKMS Ambassador, Coco Rocha, and DKMS Global Ambassador and Co-Founder, Katharina Harf, welcomed supporters to the Jimmy Choo store on Madison Avenue this week for an exclusive shopping event to benefitDKMS.
DKMS is an international nonprofit dedicated to the fight against blood cancer. DKMSfounder, Peter Harf, spoke about the importance of getting swabbed and potentially saving a life by becoming a bone marrow donor.
“Coco and Jimmy Choo have both been incredible partners as we continue our work to support patients battling blood cancer and to motivate people to register as bone marrow donors. Our mission is as simple as it is life-changing. Everyone can get swabbed and therefore, everyone can become a lifesaving hero,” said Katharina Harf.
The evening also celebrated cancer survivor Anthony Daniels, who was diagnosed with blood cancer at just 19 years old during his sophomore year at Fordham University. Despite four relapses and 30 rounds of chemotherapy, Daniels never gave up trying to find a bone marrow match. While searching for a match, he teamed up withDKMS to help raise awareness about becoming a bone marrow donor. As a result, Daniels’ efforts and story helped register more than 4000 potential bone marrow donors and more than 50 cancer patients found their lifesaving donor matches.
The event, held at Jimmy Choo’s Madison Avenue location offered guests and supporters the opportunity to discover the Jimmy Choo Autumn Winter 2016 Collection.

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, comedian Chelsea Handler strips down to reveal the new Stella Lace bra designed by Stella McCartney.
Serving as a reminder to get checked regularly, a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the bra will be donated to the Linda McCartney Centre in the UK and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in the US.
“Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women all over the world and does not discriminate,” said Stella. “While most people are aware of this terrible disease, many also do not take the steps to regularly get checked to detect it at its early stages. This set I designed is meant to serve as a reminder to women to consider their health and visit their doctor regularly. It not only looks and fits great, but is also an important healthy reminder.”

On the first stop of her Love Unleashed Tour in Poplar Bluff, MO, country music icon and 14 time Grammy nominee, Martina McBride, and her charity initiative, Team Music Is Love, did something very personal to unleash love on the town – they fed over 300 people in need.
Martina donated a truckload of food and had it delivered to Poplar Bluff a few hours before her performance, on Oct 14, at Black River Coliseum.
“The Martina McBride Mobile Food Pantry” was the first of its kind in partnership with the Bread Shed and Southeast Missouri Food Bank. This happened in an area of the state that has been hit hard with economic loss. The food bank estimates that 1 in 4 people in Missouri may not be able to put food on the table.
Volunteers with the Bread Shed and Martina’s team unloaded and distributed food to people in need. Team Music Is Love volunteers were also at Martina’s show that night to accept food donations to help the Southeast Missouri Food Bank.
Martina and her team will be doing good works in several of the towns on her Love Unleashed Tour which continued this weekend with a food drive, on Oct 15, to benefit the Dearborn Community Food Pantry around her show in Lawrenceburg, IN.
Through her Team Music Is Love organization, Martina partners with good causes and volunteers to help the towns she’s performing in. The organization has helped food banks, homeless shelters, and hospitals.
The organization also helped build a new playground for kids in Atlanta and started a music education program providing musical instruments to girls at an orphanage in Guatemala.
Moby is particularly aligned with organizations and campaigns which aim to protect animals, but he has a personal connection to the domestic abuse cause: he tweeted in September 2014, “when i was 9 i stopped my mom’s boyfriend from stabbing my mom to death. if you mock domestic abuse i have no time for you.”
