Los Angeles LGBT Center and Lionsgate® to Host Rooftop Screening in Hollywood of Jamie Babbit’s But I’m a Cheerleader on October 11

LOS ANGELES, September 28, 2020— In celebration of National Coming Out Day and the film’s 20th anniversary, the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Lionsgate present a rooftop screening of the cult classic But I’m a Cheerleader on Sunday, October 11, at the parking garage located at 1400 Ivar Avenue in Hollywood (behind the Cinerama Dome and ArcLight Hollywood), as the latest installment of the Center’s annual outdoor film series OUT Under the Stars.

But I’m a Cheerleader
follows teenager Megan (Natasha Lyonne), whose suburban existence filled with friends, cheerleading, and all-American fun is upended when her straight-laced parents suspect she may be a lesbian. In a panic, they send her to True Directions, a “rehabilitation” camp run by the strict and prudish Mary (Cathy Moriarty), to mount an intervention led by counselor Mike (RuPaul Charles). Directed by Jamie Babbit, the film also costars Clea DuVall, Michelle Williams, and Julie Delpy.

“This campy take of a coming-of-age tale will reverberate with those of us who realized we were LGBTQ after forming a high school crush on someone of the same gender, whether it was their classmate, best friend, or next-door neighbor. But I’m a Cheerleader depicts young love transcending above all,” said Rani DeMesme-Anders, Director of Community Engagement. “And with safety precautions in place against COVID-19, we look forward to watching this movie above Hollywood at a parking garage rooftop—it’s just like being at a drive-in theatre but, this time, with your community celebrating National Coming Out Day!”

Gates open at 5 p.m. with the screening scheduled at 6:30 p.m.

These tickets holders will then walk to the rooftop.
