Guest artist and wood sculptor Ray Ford will be featured in “Circular” at bG Gallery. The exhibition is presented by Gestalt Projects. The gallery recently moved (from Bergamot) and continues its celebration of its new Santa Monica location. Owner/Gallery Director Om Bleicher said he loves the new space. “We are enjoying being on an active section of Ocean Park with friendly new neighbors.”
A talented artist, Ford is ninety years old and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. He continues to create his art every day. He said he loves to explore new ideas and techniques. “Every piece is different, and I come across new challenges and problems to solve. That’s what’s fun about it,” said Ford, who recently learned a new technique.
He started burning designs on his sculptures with electricity, a new process he learned called fractal burning or the Lichtenberg technique (named after the German physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg). “It’s just another tool in my toolbox, which I use along with many other techniques,” said Ford.
For many years Ray Ford has made his living working as an artist. Though he has studied under several notable wood turners he is, by choice, mostly self-taught, preferring to develop his talents with nature as the inspiration. For additional info, see Ray Ford’s website at http://hrayford.com/
