“Daddy’s Eyes”: Raw Gripping Short for LA Shorts Film Festival

By Gordon David Durich

Los Angeles, CA (The Hollywood Times) 7/25/22 – “Daddy’s Eyes,” Drew Ann Rosenbergs latest short film, makes its local premiere at the LA Shorts International Film Festival, July 21-28.

Dark and intense, “Daddy’s Eyes” traces the underbelly of an anonymous gritty city and some inhabitants. A night club singer Lola is portrayed. The performer shoots up in her seedy dressing room. Enter LaDona, seeking her birth mother. The plot thickens as there unfolds a bittersweet reunion between mother and daughter.

Sultry and seductive, “Daddy’s Eyes” reminded this writer of David Lynch’s “Blue Velvet.” The credits state the film stars Susannah B, India Carney and Cassius Wills, with the music by Susannah B. If you are fond of drama, you will like this film.

As a singer, Susannah B has performed at many clubs in LA including the Catalina Bar and Grill Jazz Club, where the Miles Davis documentary “’Round Miles” was shot, on which I worked.

Susannah B has released six albums of her own pop songs, also a retro jazz standards recording.

Most recently, the singer has released an EP of techno house remixes with DJ/producer j. Wells. They have a new electronic single dropping later this summer 2022.

Adults only in my humble opinion, “Daddy’s Eyes” has been added to the Oscar qualifying films this year.

The film will screen on Wednesday, July 27 at 7.45 pm at the Laemmle Noho, North Hollywood.

Now in its 26th year, the LA Shorts International Film Festival ranks among the most prestigious and largest short film festivals in the world.
