LOS ANGELES (April 18, 2017) – This spring, families everywhere are celebrating Safe Kids Day at more than 200 events across the country. Safe Kids Worldwide announced today that these events will bring together families, celebrities and donors to raise awareness and funds to prevent childhood injuries. The Signature Event will take place at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., on April 23.

With a goal of raising over $1 million dollars, proceeds from Safe Kids Day support the local, state and national programs of Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit organization working to protect kids from the number one killer of children in the U.S.: preventable injuries from drownings, fires, poisonings and car crashes and more.

“Safe Kids Day is a great time to remind parents, caregivers and kids that many injuries can be easily prevented,” said Safe Kids Worldwide President and CEO Kate Carr. “In a fun atmosphere, we educate and inspire everyone to take action to protect kids on the road, at home and at play. You can join us by visiting SAFEKIDS.ORG and clicking “I’m In!”

Celebrities, professional athletes and other notable individuals are also lending their support to the cause. Through social media and at the April 23 Los Angeles event, Celebrity Heroes and safety advocates will help bring awareness to this critical cause and encourage everyone to donate now to protect all kids from preventable injuries.

Safe Kids works with an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. and with partners in more than 30 countries to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, falls, burns, poisonings and more. Since 1988, when Safe Kids was founded by Dr. Marty Eichelberger of the Children’s National Health System with support from founding sponsor, Johnson & Johnson, Safe Kids has helped reduce the U.S. childhood death rate from unintentional injury by 60 percent.
