About Boris Grebenshikov:

Boris Grebenshikov, born in St. Petersburg, Russia in 1953, is the “founding father” of Russian rock.  He and his band Aquarium, active since 1972, are household names throughout Russia!  Aquarium can be compared in influence and popularity to the Beatles.

Grebenshikov’s first solo public performance (of a song by Cat Stevens) took place in 1973.  This was soon followed by the release of his first solo album, ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR GLASS, in 1976.

Boris Grebenshikov has written over 500 songs and recorded dozens of albums with rather eclectic lyrics.  He has always been known as a voracious consumer of world culture.

“BG” is also known as a lifelong student of religion and mysticism.  Intimately familiar with the Russian Orthodox tradition, he has translated several Hindu and Buddhist books into Russian for publication and traveled the Orient widely.

Since 2005 Grebenshikov has hosted a weekly radio program on Radio Rossii called “Aerostat.”  The range of songs he plays varies from 1960s and 1970s rock classics to reggae, new wave, jazz, alternative rock, electronica, punk, world music, classical, and avant-garde.  Clearly, he’s got the whole world in his hands!
